The young man who was partying alongside first daughter Malia Obama is reportedly in trouble with the law.
Taylor Bennett, a 20-year-old rapper, was arrested and charged with aggravated battery in 2014 following an incident in which he brutally beat someone at a party.
Bennett was placed on probation, but days after he attended Lollapalooza with Malia, the court was notified that he’d previously violated probation. The violation occurred before his weekend with the eldest Obama daughter.
“Please be advised that your presence is required,” a letter from the court read. “At this hearing, the Assistant State’s attorney will seek leave to file a petition alleging a violation of supervision.”
Bennett is the younger brother of Chance the Rapper and the son of a former employee of President Obama.
Malia Obama sparked controversy herself after video surfaced of her allegedly smoking marijuana at the music festival. Her father, however, has been an advocate for marijuana reform and the decriminalization of the drug. In 2014, Obama told The New Yorker that he believes marijuana is less dangerous than alcohol.
“As has been well documented, I smoked pot as a kid, and I view it as a bad habit and a vice, not very different from the cigarettes that I smoked as a young person up through a big chunk of my adult life. I don't think it is more dangerous than alcohol,” he said.
