After years of dealing with a horrible mailman, a Kansas City woman decided she needed proof of his bad behavior, so she decided to capture video of him in the act. Now, the United States Postal Service has responded.
Susan Howard Perry captured her mailman’s inappropriate behavior on camera, and in the video, the mailman is shown throwing an expensive book out of his truck and onto her yard.
“I thought – I’m gonna see what he does with this book – and sure enough, that’s how the video happened,” said Perry. “I thought – if I were to tell somebody this, they’re gonna look at me like, really? Come on, you’re exaggerating. No I’m not, that’s how my mail gets delivered.”
Perry says that her mailman has been doing similar things for years, and although she filed complaints, nothing came from them.
“He would put the mail in, and then shove the package in, which would just tear up all the mail,” said Perry. “That’s all I did was spend my time filing complaints, and nothing got resolved.”
After posting the video online, Perry says she finally got a response; the manager of her post office showed up at her doorstep to apologize.
The Postal Service has also responded, acknowledging their plans to investigate the incident.
“The Postal Service condemns, in the strongest possible sense, the actions of any employee who mishandles mail or packages,” said representative Stacy St. Johns. “An investigation into the incident is underway and if this video is accurate, then the behavior on the part of the employee shown in the video is not only unacceptable to the Postal Service, it threatens to tarnish the reputation and high level of trust that the vast majority of our employees work so hard to uphold. We have reached out to the customer to apologize and want to assure the public that we take such incidents seriously and are taking all appropriate steps to address it and ensure it does not happen again.”
