Lena Dunham was taken to the hospital after her appearance at the Met Gala.
Dunham was taken to the emergency room from the Met Gala on May 1, Page Six reported. She suffered a medical issue and was released from the hospital after several tests, sources said.
Before making her way toward Anna Wintour’s annual fashion ball, Dunham posted pictures of herself getting ready on her Instagram account. She included a makeup-free picture before posting the end result, donning a custom Elizabeth Kennedy frock style dress.
Dunham didn't stop there. She took playful pictures on the red carpet, including one where she is standing behind Joe Jonas. She captioned that photo: "Fatal attraction."
But the "Girls" creator's night was cut short when she ended up in the hospital. It was not made clear why Dunham needed to go to the emergency room, but the publication noted that she has been very open about living with endometriosis.
Endometriosis occurs when tissue grows outside of the uterus. Dunham spoke in detail about living with the condition in a 2015 piece titled, "The Sickest Girl," for Lenny Letter:
Throughout high school, I had irregular periods and hideous mood swings, but these were hard to uncouple from the looping thoughts of doom and crippling anxiety that had been a part of my life since early childhood, when I began to struggle with obsessive compulsive disorder. It was also hard for me to imagine that the same girl who counted her every breath and blink, who had to masturbate eight times a day or not at all, who was convinced she had leukemia because she was dizzy when she sat up too fast, was now suffering from an entirely separate medical condition. Even my eternally supportive and tolerant parents seemed dubious. And who could blame them? It was impossible for me to take my own pain seriously, so how could anyone else?
A friend of Dunham told Page Six the incident was a result of her battle with the medical condition.
Dunham made headlines last year when she slammed the gala as “the Metropolitan Museum of Getting Rejected by Athletes.” She called out NFL football superstar Odell Beckham Jr.
“I was sitting next to Odell Beckham Jr., and it was so amazing because it was like he looked at me and he determined I was not the shape of a woman by his standards," she said in an interview at the time, according to The New York Times. “He was like: ‘That’s a marshmallow. That’s a child. That’s a dog.’ It wasn’t mean. He just seemed confused.”
