Christopher Kirby, an attorney for the East Ramapo School District in New York state, screamed obscenities at mom Peggy Hatton after a five-hour school board meeting in a parking lot in Spring Valley, New York.
The incident on Tuesday night at the Spring Valley High School began during the school board meeting. Hatton was upset that her special needs son failed a test and Kirby laughed (video below).
According to the New York Daily News, Hatton said: "Is it funny? I’m sorry. Shame on you."
Hatton tried to get the school board to kick Kirby out of the meeting, but they didn't respond.
“You should all be ashamed of yourselves, to let him sit there and treat me like that when I am not attacking anybody,” said Hatton. I'm telling you what a good job the teachers are doing, and you sit there!”
After the meeting, outside in the parking lot, Kirby threatens Antonio Luciano, who is recording him with a cell phone (video below): "I’m standing in your way, you gonna do something about it?"
Kirby then accuses Luciano of "hiding behind women." Moments later, Hatton accuses Kirby of "hiding behind his paycheck."
Kirby gets in his car and shouts obscene insults at Hatton, while other parents yell back.
Later, Hatton told WABC-TV: "I'm a pretty tough chick, I'm 53 years old, but I've never been spoken to that way in my entire life."
After refusing to intervene in the confrontation during the meeting, the school board has suddenly jumped into action, after the video was made public.
“We are deeply troubled by the events that occurred immediately following the conclusion of our school board meeting last night. The Board has taken the matter under advisement and will address it at a special session to occur shortly," said Board of Education President Yehuda Weissmandl in a statement.
