The National Football League had the footage of Baltimore Ravens player Ray Rice knocking out his fiancée in a casino elevator since April, a law enforcement official told the Associated Press.
The source reportedly played a 12-second voicemail from an NFL office phone number that confirmed the DVD of the footage was received on April 9.
“You’re right. It’s terrible,” a female voice says in the recording.
NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said Tuesday that no one at the NFL hadn't seen the tape until Monday. It denied that anyone in its office saw the video again on Wednesday, according to the New York Daily News.
“We have no knowledge of this,” said NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy. “We are not aware of anyone in our office who possessed or saw the video before it was made public on Monday. We will look into it.”
It is unclear who the woman in the voicemail is or what position she held at the NFL.
The Associated Press did not disclose whether the law enforcement source provided official documentation that verified the DVD was received.
