Landlord Roxanne Peters Charged in Pit Bull Attack on 10-year-old Boy

A Harrisburg, PA, landlord, Roxanne A. Peters, has been charged with releasing a pair of Pit Bulls from a tenant’s home, which resulted in one of the dogs attacking a 10-year-old boy on Thursday, October 11, reportsThe Patriot-News.

Peters has addresses in Mechanicsburg and in the 200 block of Green Street, Harrisburg,where the attack occurred,Harrisburg Police reported.

According to the police report, Peters, 40, went to a tenant’s unit regarding a repair but became "enraged" when she saw one of the tenant's pit bulls urinate on a hardwood floor. Peters allegedly threw the front door open and deliberately allowed the two Pit Bulls to run into the street. One of the dogs attacked and injured a 10-year-old boy who was walking by. A 72-year-old neighbor was able to wrestle the dog off the boy.

The victim was first taken to Harrisburg Hospital but then transferred to Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, for treatment of puncture wounds and cuts.

After the attack, police reported that an occupant of the rental unit where the dogs lived managed to get both Pit Bulls back inside. The dog that attacked the boy was placed in a cage and the other was tied to a radiator. Upon arrival of police, the dog that was tied broke free and it was so aggressive that it  had to be shot and killed by an officer. The other dog was taken to the Humane League, according toThe Patriot.

Police said the boy returned home on Friday afternoon to continue his recovery. Fortunately, the elderly neighbor who aided the boy was not injured.

Landlord Roxanne A. Peters was charged with aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and disorderly conduct, according to reports.

After Harrisburg Police issued the warrant for her arrest, they notified her family.An attorney representing Peters made contact with the police and arranged for her to turn herself in.  

Harrisburg Police say that they are still conducting the investigation of this incident.
