Kroger Store Manager Fired After Fight With Suspected Armed Shoplifter

A Kroger grocery store manager has been fired from his job after an altercation with an armed shoplifting suspect.

In a video shot with a cell phone in the store’s parking lot, the manager can be seen approaching the suspected shoplifter. He then shoves him into a parked car, removes the knife from his hand, and eventually drops him to the ground, reports Yahoo News.

In a report given to KDFW, Arlington police said the alleged shoplifter, 51-year-old Claude Medlock, has a long criminal history “that includes theft and robbery convictions.”

The police also commented that they do not view the manager’s actions as criminal.

Kroger released a statement regarding the situation stating that the manager’s actions were “not a reflection of our company's fraud prevention protocol, procedures or training." Subsequently, the manager was fired from his job with Kroger.

The store manager believes he handled the situation correctly, having worked in loss prevention for 13 years.
