Kidnapped Girl Madeleine McCann Spotted in India?

Tourists in a small town in India think they may have spotted missing British girl Madeleine McCann. Local police took some DNA from her, and now are awaiting results of a test to see if it matches Madeleine's.

The Daily Mail reports that a British woman was walking through a market in the northern city of Leh when she saw a girl who she thought looked like Madeleine. Other tourists got involved, and at one point an American man tried to take her away from the couple who was with her, reports the Chandigarh Tribune.

The French woman and Belgian man insisted they were the girl's parents. Police copied their passports and took a DNA sample from the girl.

Clarence Mitchell, spokesman for Madeleine’s parents Gerry and Kate McCann, said, "Our private investigators are aware of the reports from India over the weekend about a possible sighting of Madeleine. We are liaising with the Indian authorities over the incident and await the results of the DNA test."

Madeleine was almost four years old when she kidnapped from the family's hotel room during a vacation in Portugal in May 2007. The girl and her two younger siblings were alone in the room while they parents dined nearby.
