Sherri Papini's Husband Is A Suspect In Her Abduction

The husband of the California woman who was kidnapped while jogging has not yet been ruled out as a suspect.

Sherri Papini disappeared in early November, but turned up on Thanksgiving Day, reportedly having been abducted by two Hispanic females, and exhibiting signs of severe physical abuse.

Shasta County Sheriff Tom Bosenko told ABC News there was a message branded into her skin. "I would think that that was some sort of either an exertion of power and control and or maybe some type of message that the brand contained," Bosenko said on ABC's "Good Morning America." "It is not a symbol, but it was a message."

Keith also revealed Sherri's nose was broken and her hair chopped off.

Following the traumatic ordeal, the Papinis and their children fled their home in Redding, California, for an undisclosed location, reports the Daily Mail.

Keith said it was too difficult for his wife to be at home after what happened to her, and that they might never return.

The abduction remains a mystery, with no apparent motive.

Private detective Bill Garcia has speculated that Sherri might have been the victim of sex trafficking, based on the evidence of physical abuse.

“I suspect based on the types of injuries Sherri incurred, the beatings, the broken nose, the cut hair, especially the chains and the branding, indicate that most likely it was one of these sex trafficking groups,” Garcia said.

Regarding Garcia’s theory, Bosenko said, “We don't know if this was related to any cartel or sex trafficking ... Right now we have no known reason why she was abducted, we do not know if she was specifically targeted or if this was a random abduction.”

Bosenko also noted Keith has not been ruled out as a suspect. “We are keeping an open mind and looking at all avenues,” he said.

He added that the husband “has been cooperative and even volunteered for a polygraph, which he passed.”
