Kevin Hart Explains Why He Won’t Play Gay Characters

While doing promotional work for his newest movie, comedian Kevin Hart recently told the media that he refuses to play gay characters.

According to the Huffington Post, during an appearance on Power 105.1’s the Breakfast Club this past week, Hart acknowledged that he turned down a role in 2008’s ‘Tropic Thunder’ because the character was written as a homosexual.

"The dude,” Hart said of the character. “He was doing a lot of stuff in the draft that I read. It was real flagrant."

Hart then elaborated on his position.

"I can't [play a gay character] because I don't think I'm really going to dive into that role 100 percent, because of the insecurities about myself trying to play that part," he said.

"What I think people are going to think while I'm trying to do this is going to stop me from playing that part the way I'm supposed to."

Hart generally stays away from making any real jokes about the LGBT community. As he mentioned in a Reddit AMA last year, it is a “sensitive topic and I respect people of all orientations."
