Rapper Kanye West met and embraced President-elect Donald Trump Dec. 13 at Trump Tower in New York City.

The Daily Mail reports that West entered Trump Tower with an entourage that included 35-year-old Corey Gamble, who is mother-in-law Kris Jenner’s boyfriend.  West reportedly met Trump for 15 minutes, with the two exchanging handshakes and hugs. Trump even descended to the lobby with West, a move he has only made for one other visitor -- a Japanese banking official.

“We’re just friends, just friends,” Trump said of his relationship with West. “He’s a good man.  Going well, Long time - we’ve been friends for a long time.”

Trump added, “Life, we discussed life.”

West did not respond to questions about whether he still plans to run for president in 2020, something he has mentioned numerous times in recent months. Instead, he said: “I just want you to take my picture right now,” as he posed for photos with the president-elect.

As West departed, Trump could be heard saying, “Man, you take care of yourself.  I’ll see you soon.”  That was likely in reference to the fact that West was recently hospitalized due to a reported nervous breakdown.

West, who was forced to cancel the final leg of his concert tour, told audiences that Trump was a "genius" while on stage, and announced that he would have voted for Trump had he voted at all.  He received loud "boos" from the crowd for his endorsement of Trump.

TMZ reports that the meeting came at West’s request, and that this was his first public appearance since being released from the hospital after his breakdown.

Meanwhile, West’s wife, Kim Kardashian, was a prominent supporter of former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and made it clear that she was voting Democrat in the election.

For Trump, the move can be seen as a political one to reach out to the African American community, or potentially as a recruitment of the celebrity rapper to perform at his inauguration ceremony.
