Pop singer Justin Timberlake could be facing jail time after taking a selfie in a revered place: a voting booth.

The photo, shared on Oct. 24, shows Timberlake with a scrunched-up face in front of a ballot machine in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.

The caption reads:

“Hey! You! Yeah, YOU! I just flew from LA to Memphis to #rockthevote !!! No excuses, my good people! There could be early voting in your town too. If not, November 8th! Choose to have a voice! If you don't, then we can't HEAR YOU! Get out and VOTE! #excerciseyourrighttovote.”

His voting booth selfie, which was posted to Instagram, is currently landing Timberlake in hot water with Tennessee officials who say they're investigating the incident.

A Tennessee official for the election board where Timberlake voted told reporters the pop star should be extolled for encouraging his 37 million followers to vote.

In 2015, Republican Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam signed a bill barring photos or videos inside polling stations, according to New York Daily News.

Cellphones are allowed at polling stations for “informational purposes to assist the voter in making election decisions.”

The rule was mainly created to prevent voter fraud or intimidation and to safeguard confidentiality.

Currently, 18 states prohibit taking photos and videos in polling locations, while six states ban picture taking, but allow photos of mail-in ballots.

The Shelby County District Attorney's Office Communications Director Vince Higgins told Us Weekly the department "was made aware of a possible violation of election law. The matter is under review by the D.A.'s office."

If convicted, Timberlake could face a maximum 30-day jail sentence and a fine of up to $50.

Although Timberlake’s photo does not reveal who he voted for, chances are it was Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

In August, Timberlake and his wife, actress Jessica Biel, both of whom are outspoken Clinton supporters, hosted a $33,400-a-ticket Hollywood fundraiser for the Democratic presidential nominee.
