Father Told By Judge To Stop Typing In All Capital Letters When Emailing Estranged Children

An Israeli man was told by a High Court judge in England that he has to stop emailing his children in all capital letters because it looks like he’s yelling at them.

The father is in a heated custody battle over his 9-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son, and during the trial, the British judge told him that his emails were “insensitive” and that he needed a family assistance officer to help him draft them from now on.

"He needs help to make his messages appropriate and child friendly,” the judge said. "There's nothing worse than an email suggestive that the sender is shouting at you."

"The father made clear he has never stopped loving the children from the moment they were born,” the judge continued. “He thinks about them every hour. They are the most important thing in his life.”

Despite his love for his children, the father has reportedly had a rocky relationship with them over the years, especially since he and his wife became estranged. In the end, the judge expressed hope that the family could one day reach good terms, but for now, the father’s request for a physical meeting with his children has been denied.

"I have considered, but ultimately rejected, the idea of directing there should be such a meeting because, in my assessment, the children would be strongly averse to participating,” said the judge. “In addition, they would be exposed almost certainly to more of the father's impulsive behaviour. He may not be able to prevent himself once more denigrating the mother, openly accusing her of alienation or brainwashing. Seldom is it necessary to decide that in the interests of a child, only indirect contact should be ordered. Here there are compelling reasons for concluding that their relationship with their father should be limited to indirect contact by occasional cards, letters and presents.”

The judge went on to say she hoped that the father would begin healing the relationship with his family, and the first part of that would be to stop sending emails in all capital letters.
