A 20-year-old Pennsylvania woman who will serve between 90 days and one year in prison after pleading guilty to attempting to have sex with a dog on camera needs serious help, according to the judge who sentenced her
The defendant, Rachael Harris of Curwensville, Pennsylvania, entered the plea on Aug. 25, notes Centre Daily. She was charged with eight counts of animal cruelty and four counts each of an obscene performance and criminal conspiracy/producing an obscene performance. Following her jail time, she will have to serve four consecutive years of probation.
Her husband, 24-year-old Corey Dean Harris, who allegedly filmed the attempted intercourse, received 30 days to a year in jail and five consecutive years of probation for his involvement.
"This is sick," Clearfield County Judge Paul Cherry told Rachel, according to The Progress. "You need help! -- big time!"
Both Rachael and Corey were sentenced to counseling. Cherry instructed Rachel to pay $1,400 plus court costs, avoid drugs and alcohol, and work for 100 hours of community service. She was also banned from owning or working with animals.
In court, Rachael said little, kept her voice down and did not give a statement.
Police were first alerted to the startling video footage after a woman told the SPCA that she had a camera that had footage of Rachael's' acts with the dog, reports Centre Daily.
An officer then viewed some of the video and obtained a search warrant on Nov. 30. The woman who turned over the camera later identified Corey as the male voice in the footage.
A number of Facebook users said that they were disgusted by the whole situation.
"Wow sick trash," one New York Post Facebook user commented. "Where do these filthy people come from. Has to be a mental defect. Hopefully she gets her twisted self some help. The husband just as sick too."
Others felt that the sentences were too lenient and should instead include anything from registering as a sex offender to execution, though a few found the penalties too harsh.
"So this is gross, and wrong [in] my opinion," one person commented. "But what is fining them and putting them in jail going to accomplish? Just waste more taxpayer money on jailing them amid the court got a small payout. MAYBE you order them to not have pets or work around animals, but even so, they're going to do whatever they want. This is so stupid."
But was the couple motivated solely by their deviant fetish? Some say they were just looking for a payout.
"Some people earn big bucks by selling the videos," somebody wrote. "When a man encourages his wife to perform such sex acts, something else is behind it."
