A Japanese man walked 870 miles home after being mugged because he didn’t want to inconvenience the members of his family or the police.
The man was mugged after he missed his return flight home from a trading card convention and had his wallet and cell phone taken. He “didn’t want to make a fuss” and spent the small amount of cash he had stashed in his shoe on food and water so that he could survive the walk home.
Eleven days after he vanished and was declared missing, the 25-year-old man showed up on his mom’s doorstep.
“I used the money I had hidden in my shoe to buy bread and water to fight off the hunger,” he told a local newspaper. “It was good to be able to get home, but I did not want to cause any problems for anyone. I’m sorry to everyone that I inconvenienced.”
His mother was relieved to get her son back.
“I was shocked and thought I was seeing a ghost when he arrived,” she said. “I’m just thrilled he is back and I’m very sorry to everyone who was worried about him.”
The man returned home with a rare trading card that the muggers weren’t able to take so the trip wasn’t a total loss, The Inquisitr reported.
