'Moonlighting,' 'George Lopez' Actor Jack Blessing Dies Promo Image

Film and television actor Jack Blessing has died following a battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 66. 

Jack died on Nov. 14 at his home in California, according to The Hollywood Reporter. His death was confirmed by his son Ian. 

The Baltimore native was best known for his recurring roles on television shows such as "The Naked Truth," "Moonlighting" and "George Lopez." During his nearly 40-year career, Jack appeared in dozens of television shows in addition to movie roles and voice work, according to the Internet Movie Database.

Jack got his start with a role on the 1978 television movie "The Defection of Simas Kudirka." After a series of minor television and film roles, Jack landed a starring role on the 1983 show "Small & Frye." 

His next major role came in 1986 opposite Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd on the show "Moonlighting." Jack played McGillicuddy, an employee at the detective agency where all the main characters worked.

Nine years later, Jack appeared as Tea Leoni's building manager Mr. Donner in "The Naked Truth." 

In between his major television roles, Jack had small parts on numerous shows including "M*A*S*H," "Family Ties," "Thirtysomething," "The Golden Girls," "Northern Exposure," "Star Trek: Deep Space Nine," "Touched by an Angel," "Mike and Molly," "The X-Files" and "CSI: Crime Scene Investigation." 

Jack's role as Jack Powers, George Lopez's boss on "George Lopez," was his last major recurring role before his death. Following the show's end in 2007, Jack acted in minor television roles and voiced characters in animated movies like "Megamind," "ParaNorman," "Bee Movie" and "Planes."

Although television comprised the bulk of his career, Jack also landed big-screen roles in movies such as "Heaven's Gate," "Galaxy of Terror," "Thirteen Days" and "Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby."

Following his death, Jack's son Ian took to Facebook to memorialize his father. 

"I love you, Dad," Ian wrote. "The last year and a half was a gift to us, as was your entire life. We're the luckiest family in the world. Best of luck in the astral plane. I know you're going to crush it."

One commenter on Ian's Facebook post remembered an encounter with Jack.

"I met your dad in the late 80's in Mar Vista, CA on the set of Moonlighting," the commenter wrote. "I loved the show and particularly your Dad's performance and character. He was nice enough to take a picture with me on the way back to his trailer. At the time I was just a fan stalking a location set. I could tell from my quick interaction with him he was a lovely soul. RIP."

Jack Blessing is survived by his wife Lora and his sons Ian and Christopher, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Lora is also an actress who appeared on an episode of "Moonlighting."
