Residents of a neighborhood in East Huntingdon Township, Pennsylvania, were outraged to discover a Confederate flag with an African-American doll hanging from a noose with a knife in its back.

Resident Rachel Szolek told WTAE she was driving down the road on Feb. 16 when she first noticed the disturbing display.

"We actually turned around because we had passed the house, and there it was, and the first thing was shock," Szolek said. She posted a photo of the display on Facebook, and it quickly went viral. WTAE informed East Huntingdon Township supervisor Paul Hodgkiss.

"[I'm] definitely against anything like that in our township," Hodgkiss said.

A WTAE reporter subsequently visited the home of the person who put up the flag and doll, but no one answered the door. A short time later, the display was gone.

A similar incident occurred in September 2015, when a Chesapeake, Virginia, resident hung a Confederate flag and noose from their garage, reported WAVY at the time.
