A California woman reportedly slammed into a pedestrian while driving drunk, and then drove for a mile with the victim's dead body stuck in her windshield, according to police.
Esteysi Sanchez, 29, also known as Stacey Sanchez, was out drinking in the early morning hours of June 27 before the accident occurred at around 6:20 a.m., according to KGTV.
Police say Sanchez veered onto the sidewalk and hit the man at high speed. The victim went through the windshield head-first and landed on the passenger's seat. One of his legs catapulted through the back window and came down on the trunk of the car, KNSD reports.
Sanchez then drove for another mile before abandoning her car in a cul-de-sac and walking home.
Witnesses called the police, and Sanchez was later arrested and charged with felony DUI, felony hit-and-run, and vehicular manslaughter.
"There's no words to describe it," witness Edwin Esparza told KNSD. "I mean, just seeing that up close and personal, it's kind of traumatizing in a way."
Another man who lives in the neighborhood said he was afraid to come outside.
"Horrific. Yeah, I've never in my whole life have I heard a story like this," Lou Torres said. "It was so strange that I couldn't imagine any scenario that would cause this."
Although the victim has not been identified, he was reportedly known as a vagabond. It is believed that he was walking to or from a local soup kitchen when he was killed, according to KGTV.
Police found his shoes, keys, wallet, ID and pants in the street, along with part of the car's windshield.
Sanchez is being held at the Vista Detention Facility. It is not clear whether she has legal representation at this time.
