An Australian woman shared the dangers of meeting people online after her date went horribly wrong.
Kat Berry, 31, shared her story on Facebook on April 7, detailing the night she met a man she had been talking to on the dating website Plenty Of Fish.
The two met in person at a pub on Oct. 17, 2015. After spending several hours at the pub, they reportedly went back to Berry's house, where they spent hours talking, drinking, and watching music videos on YouTube.
"We got along really well," Berry told Daily Mail. "We discovered we got along better as maters, there was nothing sexual. At 2am I decided I'd had too much to drink and said I needed to go to bed. That's when he turned."
According to Berry, when she told the man she needed to go to sleep, he violently attacked and raped her.
"He grabbed me on the boob from behind," she said. "The rest is a big blur. I remember bits and pieces."
Along with her Facebook post, Berry shared photos of her injuries from the attack. She had bruises on her breast, arms, thigh, collarbone and neck.
"What no one knows is of the scars I have under my boobs, around my vagina, my clitoris, or the internal damage done," Berry wrote in the post.
Kat told Daily Mail that since the attack, she has experienced extreme anxiety and depression. She has also had a hard time dating since the incident.
Berry said she hopes her story will serve as a warning to other women and encourage them to be cautious when it comes to online dating.
She shared her story after learning from police on April 7 that her rapist would not be charged.
Berry noted that although the police have found the man who attacked her, she has "no proof to show he had done it to me," because he wore a condom and deleted his profile from the dating site.
