Ohio father Nathen Steffel turned to Reddit over the weekend after his infant daughter passed away, asking anyone who could to photoshop the tubes out of her hospital pictures. When the Internet responded, he was overwhelmed.
"My daughter recently passed away after a long battle in the children's hospital," Steffel wrote. "Since she was in the hospital her whole life, we never were able to get a photo without all her tubes. Can someone remove the tubes from this photo?"
Much to Steffel's shock, he received tons of retouched photos and even some drawings.
Many of those who responded to Steffel's request commented on the Reddit post that they couldn't sleep before trying to photoshop the picture.
In a statement to the TODAY show, Steffel explained that he never wanted the publicity surrounding his daughter's retouched photo. However, he appreciates the love and support he's received from complete strangers.
"I was overwhelmed with the response I got," Steffel wrote. "They couldn't have made this father any happier."
From the first ultrasound, Steffel and his wife were aware that something was wrong with their daughter Sophia. It wasn't until she was born that the couple discovered how sick she actually was.
After she was born, Sophia spent part of her life at Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus and later in Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center, where liver surgeons and experts cared for her.
Sophia had been on a waiting list for a liver when she died at only six weeks from a hepatic hemangioma, or a liver tumor.
