Instagram Photos Lead Police to Drug Bust

Photos and videos of marijuana plants and smoking posted online brought police to the house of a 20-year-old man in Blakely, where officers arrested the man and his parents Friday.

Police found and confiscated multiple weapons and 40 marijuana plants when they arrested Dakota Lamandre and his parents, Kim, 58, and Anthony, 52, according to the Scranton Times-Tribune.

The weapons included multiple shotguns and rifles, and a handgun on Dakota’s parents bedside table, next to a box of ammunition and a bong.

The family came under surveillance after police received a phone call on Monday asking officers to look at Dakota’s Instagram account, where he had posted images of himself smoking what seemed to be marijuana. Instagram is a form of social media where users can share photos and videos.

“Yeah, he basically got himself caught,” said Joseph Jordan, the Lackawanna County CHief Detective, according to WNEP.

One of the videos Lamandre posted featured him taking hits from a bong and saying, "Good morning. I'm ripped. Still coughing. Grow weed all day.”

The family members face multiple drug charges, involving the manufacturing of marijuana, intending to distribute weed and putting a child in danger.

Dakota’s 12-year-old nephew who also lived at the house was moved to stay in the custody of other relatives.

“I’m shocked, I’m absolutely shocked. They were a nice family and this is a quiet neighborhood,” said Kimberly Evans, a resident of Blakely.
