Music industry insiders speculate rapper Kanye West admitted himself into the hospital for insurance purposes.
Speaking to Page Six, an industry insider suggested West went over the line with his pro-Trump rhetoric and had to cancel his tour to avoid backlash. The sources indicated that his subsequent hospitalization was a means of saving face and money.
"He went too far off with the rants," the anonymous source reportedly told Page Six. "It was going to alienate his core fan base. There are real business people around him, including Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian, who want the payday. They needed to preserve the brand this way."
"He had just canceled for no reason, no injury, no force majeure, so they were going to lose a bunch of money," the source said. "Kanye is crazy, but not crazy enough to not get his insurance money. [He] knows what he is doing."
If this is indeed the case, however, West could have a legal battle on his hands.
"They don’t pay out easily for this kind of thing with this kind of price tag," the source added. "I would think they would want to do an intense investigation and that this will be a disputed claim. When you’re on the hook for an arena at that level -- on top of money for marketing, promotion, set builds, staff on the road -- it’s tens of millions. It’s gonna be a sticky situation."
A member of the rapper's inner circle reportedly denied thee insider's claims.
West is expected to remain in the hospital until at least Nov. 27, TMZ reports.
