One 6-month-old baby girl roasted to death in a hot car in Oregon after her computer engineer father neglected to take her to day care.
According to police reports, Joshua Freier had taken his daughter Jillian to a doctor’s appointment in October of last year and afterward left her in his hot car while he continued his work day. Freier had lunch with a coworker, attended meetings and even took a call from his wife before he realized what he had done.
When Freier’s wife called a second time around 5 p.m., Freier realized he had left his child in the car. Freier later told police that he immediately ran to the parking lot, taking off so quickly that he tore a wheel off his chair with his shoelace.
When Freier reached his car, his daughter’s lips were blue and foam was bubbling from her mouth. She also wasn’t breathing. According to police, the interior temperature of the car was about 116 degrees by 2 p.m.
Freier’s wife arrived at the scene with their son while Freier performed CPR on his daughter. Paramedics arrived on the scene and declared the infant dead after delivering her to the hospital.
“I don’t know what I’m going to say to my wife and son,” Freier told Oregon Live. “I totally forgot she was in my car.”
As paramedics took his daughter away, Freier reported feeling ill. He was also pale and despondent at the scene.
