Two men in Indianapolis were arrested on Nov. 23 on charges of killing Amanda Blackburn in her home during a home invasion. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office is seeking an enhancement of at least one of the suspect's sentences, which could add additional years in prison if found guilty.
Amanda Blackburn was killed in her home on Nov. 10 after being shot in the head, Fox Carolina reports. Her husband, Davey Blackburn, discovered her body when he came home from the gym that day. Amanda was taken to a hospital nearby, where she passed away.
Amanda was reportedly 12 weeks pregnant when she was killed, and the couple have a 1-year-old son named Weston. Neither Weston nor the family's dog were harmed during the burglary.
The Marion County Prosecutor's Office said on Nov. 23 that two suspects were arrested and charged for Blackburn's murder, along with charges of burglarizing two other homes in the area, according to WISH TV. The suspects are Larry Jo Taylor Jr., 18, and Jalen Watson, 21.
According to Fox Carolina, police believe that the men had burglarized the two homes early in the morning, with the second one happening around 5:30 a.m. Davey left for the gym at around 6 a.m., and a neighbor reported what they thought may have been gunshots at roughly 6:45 a.m.
The probable cause affidavit filed in the case says that there was a third accomplice with Taylor and Watson during the burglary, WISH TV reports.
Fox 59 reports that Taylor and Watson pleaded not guilty during their first court appearance on Nov. 24. Prosecutors have sought a sentence enhancement for Taylor, relating to the fact that Blackburn was 12 weeks pregnant when she was shot. The evidence will be presented to the jury when the trial takes place, and the sentence enhancement could add between 6 and 20 years to Taylor's sentence if found guilty.
No trial date has been set for Watson and Taylor yet. The third alleged accomplice, Diano Gordon, has not been charged in the murder case.
