An Illinois man who went on an eight-murder killing spree in two states in 2008 was given four more life sentences on Monday for murders he committed.

Nicholas Sheley is already serving two life sentences for killing two men in Illinois. He still also currently faces the possibility of additional life sentences for two other killings he allegedly committed in Missouri. Rock Island County Judge Jeffrey O’Connor handed down the four life sentences to Shelley, according to the Huffington Post.

In May, Shelley was convicted of killing 20-year-old Kilynna Blake, her 2-year-old son Dayan, 29-year-old Brock Branson and Kenneth Ulve, 25. Shelley reportedly beat them to death with a hammer in an apartment and has been called a serial killer. Officials say he chose the people he attacked at random and hacked them to death.

Police have speculated that alcohol and drugs were involved in the killings.
