Police arrested an Arizona couple on Dec. 2 after receiving a report that the couple had made a bestiality video involving a service dog.
Roy Lee Johnston, 39, allegedly filmed his wife, 44-year-old Melessa Ann Martinez, engaging in sexual acts with the animal, according to KTVK.
The dog, Buddy, belonged to a friend, reported KNXV.
A family member reported the couple to police after finding the bestiality video on a cell phone.
Both now face bestiality charges.
Martinez confirmed Johnston filmed her performing sexual acts on the dog.
According to the police report, Johnston told police he got the idea "after watching the news and seeing a woman got in trouble for having sex with her dog," yet added "he knew it was morally wrong."
Police seized the dog from its home. However, the judge will allow Martinez, who suffers from seizures, to make contact with another service dog if she provides proof she needs it.
In another story involving bestiality charges, a Virginia court sentenced Stephen Taylor, 31, to 20 months in prison in November 2017 after he was accused of having sex with and abusing at least some of his eight Rottweiler dogs, reports the Miami Herald.
A examination by a veterinarian revealed one of the dogs had an infection on its penis, anal glands and rectum.
"These acts were really despicable acts, absolutely despicable," Judge Stephen Yoffy said, according to the Richmond-Times Dispatch.
"I just don’t have any words," he added. "This is disgusting."
Authorities also found Taylor had 171 images of bestiality in his possession, one of which showed him performing oral sex on one of the dogs.
Authorities found the pictures after arresting Taylor’s roommate, 35-year-old Craig Knox, who was charged with taking part in a child sex ring, reported WWBT.
Taylor initially accused Knox of abusing the dogs before admitting to the crime, telling the court that he had been "going down a very wrong path."
"I really regret what I’ve done," he said.
Those who knew Taylor said they were shocked and disgusted by the accusations.
"It's appalling to me," said neighbor Debra Kendall, who talked to Taylor a few days before his arrest. "Just appalling. When I talked to [him] he said he was going out to his mom and dad's for a while because he was so upset. Then a week later, I'm watching the news and I see him on the TV and I just freaked."
