Human Remains Found At Home Of Accused 'Food Network Star' Murderer

Human remains have reportedly been found inside a wood stove at the home of the man accused of murdering a pregnant former contestant from the TV show, “Food Network Star,” and her husband in North Carolina.

Robert Jason Owens is accused of killing 5-month pregnant Cristie Schoen Codd, 38, and her husband, Joseph “J.T.” Codd, 45. Cristie was a finalist on season 8 of "Food Network Star."

The Codds were reported missing Sunday by relatives after they could not reach either of them, reports CNN.

Authorities found items in their home out of place and an investigation was opened, according to Buncombe County Sheriff Van Duncan. Details as to what was suspicious about their home’s state were not given, but authorities said that their cars and dogs were at home.

The day after they were reported missing, police received a call about suspicious activity around Owens’ home in Candler, North Carolina.

"They (caller) identified that someone had come out and very suspiciously had left things in a [d]umpster," Duncan said. "We responded and were able to locate items that we knew belonged to Cristie Schoen Codd."

Owens confessed to taking the items from the victims’ home, where he had worked as a contractor.

A search warrant was obtained for Owens' home.

Human remains were found in the wood stove and other areas.

"Parts of those were recovered from a woodstove at that residence," Duncan said.

The remains are currently undergoing forensic analysis to determine if they belong to the Codds.

A saw blade and 11 knives were also removed from two of Owens’ homes, reports Huffington Post.

The Codds are believed to have been murdered three days before the missing persons report was filed.

Owens has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, murder of an unborn child, and breaking and entering.

Owens’ wife told investigators he confessed to her that he killed Joseph, Duncan said.

No details on motive or whether a confession in the murder of Cristie have been released.

"From that point, there's not really a whole lot of detail we can get into," Duncan said, due to the ongoing investigation.

Owens was also a prime suspect in the disappearance of college student Zebb Quinn 15 years ago. His body was never found.
