'It Was All Happening So Fast': Homeowner Takes Down Armed Robber

An Atlanta homeowner says his survival instincts took over when two gunmen attempted to rob him and held his family at gunpoint.

The homeowner, who wished to not be identified, says two men broke into his home at 3 a.m. on Sunday, WSB-TV reports. One of the men came around the side of his home, pointed a gun at his head, and demanded money, according to the homeowner.

He reportedly told the gunman that the only money he had was in his truck. When the armed robber looked inside the vehicle, his gun went off and struck the car, My Fox Atlanta reports.

The homeowner then allegedly wrestled the gunman to the ground and the gun flew out of his hand.

“It was all happening so fast, I saw the gun on the ground and I couldn't let him get it, he would have shot me,” the homeowner explained, according to My Fox Atlanta.

The would-be victim said he grabbed the gun and started firing. The suspect collapsed in the neighbor’s driveway and was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

The second gunman, who was inside the house holding the homeowner’s wife and six children at gunpoint, came outside when he heard the gunshots, My Fox Atlanta reports. He fired a few shots before running away.

The homeowner says his survival instincts took over and he was just trying to protect his family.

“I found the strength to overpower them,” he said. “I couldn’t let them in the house, if they went in the house they could have shot all of them.”

Police are still investigating the incident.
