Homeless Mom Gets Job Interview, Lacks Childcare, Ends Up In Jail

Shanesha Taylor, a homeless woman, went to a job interview last Thursday in Scottsdale, Ariz., but ended up losing her two kids to protective services and going to jail.

Taylor was arrested and charged with child abuse for allegedly leaving her 6-month-old baby and 2-year-old toddler in a car with the windows cracked, reports WFSB.

The kids were reportedly inside the car for 45 minutes while she did her job interview. A passerby heard one of the kids crying and called the police.

Taylor told Scottsdale Police that she couldn't find anyone to watch her kids and needed a job.

“She was upset,” said Sgt. Mark Clark of the Scottsdale Police. “This is a sad situation all around. She said she was homeless, she needed the job. Obviously, not getting the job. So it’s just a sad situation.”

Taylor is still in jail, where she will likely stay until her court date.

In 2011, the Arizona legislature and Gov. Jan Brewer cut 40 percent of the state's child care budget, notes AZCentral.com.
