A 21-year-old Hofstra University student, who was celebrating the end of her junior year at a local bar, was trailed home and killed during a home invasion.
“She was pleading for her life. You could tell she was scared. It was a surreal moment . . . She was pleading — her voice was trembling and she yelled, ‘No, no!’”
“The whole sorority was at the bar last night,” said Amanda Babyatsky, 22. “The bar was really crowded, and all the sisters were there. They were all out because it’s the end of school.”
The gunman forced his way into Rebello’s home and held all four occupants at gunpoint. “I saw you at the bar drinking. I know you have more money than this!” he snarled, according to a law-enforcement source.
“It was about 2 a.m. and I was getting ready for bed when I heard a woman yelling and then one shot,” said Lucia Shu, a 24-year-old Hofstra grad student. At roughly 2 AM police entered the home. When the gunfire stopped both the gunman and Rebello were dead.
“Then there were continuous gunshots and then after that a man also screamed," said Shu. “We called public safety, and they said do not go out.”
The gunman has not yet been identified.
