Here's The Outfit That Got This Pregnant Woman Kicked Out Of Planet Fitness (Photos)

Planet Fitness has made headlines on several occasions recently for telling customers that they are inappropriately dressed, and asking them to either change their outfits or leave the gym.

The gym chain added to its less-than-stellar record with clients when an employee asked a pregnant woman to leave a Charleston, S.C. gym because her belly was too visible in her tight clothing.

Melissa Mantor, 31, was 18 weeks pregnant when the incident occurred. The stay-at-home mom went to work out in a tank top and leggings.

“I went to the gym for my usual workout but it was the first day that I was visibly pregnant,” said Mantor.

Mantor said she was on the treadmill when a female employee came up to her and told her that she was in violation of the dress code, and would have to leave the gym.

“She then said: ‘I’m going to have to send you home to get changed because your belly’s hanging out and I need to get it covered up.’ I told her: ‘Of course my belly is hanging out, I am pregnant,’” Mantor recalls.

Mantor went home and tried to call the manager, but received no response. When she went back to the gym the following day to cancel her membership, an employee again told her that she had “obviously” violated the dress code policy and that her clothing choice “was not appropriate.”

Notably, while the Planet Fitness dress code forbids that customers wear “string tank tops”, it does not mention bare midriffs. Furthermore, Mantor said that she had regularly worn that tank top to the gym without problems; she is even wearing it in her membership photo.

Mantor has since cancelled her gym membership, and has refused a Planet Fitness representative’s offer of a free month’s membership. She noted that she could not go to a gym “where they would make someone feel bad about themselves when they are trying to stay in shape.”

As Opposing Views reported, a Detroit teenager was asked to cover up or leave a Planet Fitness gym in April after a female employee told her that her tank top was making others too uncomfortable.
