Police officers in the U.K. are investigating movie mogul Harvey Weinstein over allegations of sexual abuse that took place in London in the 1980s.

"We can confirm the Metropolitan Police Service was passed an allegation of sexual assault by Merseyside Police on Wednesday, 11 October," a Metropolitan Police spokesman said, reports the Daily Mail. "The allegation will be assessed by officers from the Child Abuse and Sexual Offenses Command."

Merseyside Police says someone filed a report on Oct. 11 alleging a sexual assault in the London area in the 1980s.

In the U.S., the New York Police Department announced on Oct. 12 it is also looking into abuse allegations.

News of the investigations come as more than 25 actresses have spoken out against Weinstein, accusing him of sexually assaulting or sexually harassing them.

Model and actress Cara Delevingne and British actress Kate Beckinsale are the latest to speak out.

Beckinsale recalls a time Weinstein sent her to a hotel room rather than a meeting room, where he greeted her in his bathrobe when she was 17 years old.

"I was incredibly naive and young and it did not cross my mind that this older, unattractive man would expect me to have any sexual interest in him," she said, BBC reports. "After declining alcohol and announcing that I had school in the morning I left, uneasy but unscathed. A few years later, he asked me if he had tried anything with me in that first meeting. I realized he couldn't remember if he had assaulted me or not."

According to Beckinsale, that was just the first of many uncomfortable encounters she'd experience with the producer.

She said she said "no to him professionally many times over the years" which she adds "undoubtedly harmed my career and was never something I felt supported by anyone other than my family."

Delevingne also alleged Weinstein made a move on her.

"He walked me to the door and stood in front of it and tried to kiss me on the lips," she said. "I stopped him and managed to get out of the room."

She added: "I still got the part for the film and always thought that he gave it to me because of what happened. Since then I felt awful that I did the movie. I felt like I didn't deserve the part. I was so hesitant about speaking out. I didn't want to hurt his family."
