A handgun was found hidden inside of a Bible in the home of a suspected drug dealer in Massachusetts.
On Wednesday, police in Springfield, Massachusetts, raided the apartment of 32-year-old Jimmie James — known as “Mook” — and noticed a Bible on his nightstand. Detective Eddie Kalish, who reportedly “did not think Mook was a religious person,” took a closer glance at the holy book and noticed that it was hollowed out. He opened it to discover a 9mm handgun inside. The Bible also reportedly contained 10 rounds of ammo.
“Jimmie James took the time to hollow out the pages of the Bible to make a convenient spot for a firearm instead of actually reading it,” Sgt. John Delaney said.
In addition to the handgun, police also found packages of cocaine, scales and cash in James’ apartment during the raid. He was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of cocaine with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm when in the commission of a felony and possession of a firearm and ammunition.
James also faces additional charges, including resisting arrest, improper storage of a firearm and refusing to submit.
