Former Premier League soccer player and convicted pedophile Adam Johnson was reportedly involved in a prison fight.
Rumors circulated online that the former English soccer star had been involved in a fight while cleaning a shower in Moorland prison, with witnesses confirming the incident, the Daily Mail reports.
“One of the cons told him to clean his shower again," a witness said, the Daily Star reports. "Johnson ignored him and the other bloke really got in his face. Johnson then swore at him. The bloke punched him in the face and Johnson defended himself.”
The inmate added, “He’s very fit and quite a big lad so he wasn’t going to take it lying down. It looked as though it was getting nasty but it was broken up by other inmates. It was over pretty quickly and Johnson looked quite shaken up. None of the prison guards saw anything and no one made a fuss.”
Johnson’s sister, Faye, says the incident never happened.
“These newspapers are laughable," she wrote on Facebook. "Why is there rarely any truth in their stories? Were the false stories about harm not so sickening we would find it funny. I've just spoke to Adam he is fine and I also want to add that never has he asked for special treatment and never will he. He has the right to appeal and he has! In the meantime, he's an ordinary prisoner like the rest. You will all hear the truth when Adam comes home.”
While she claims he is an average prisoner, Moorland is one of the most modern jails in the U.K., with a games room, gym and soccer field.
He was reportedly moved to the jail after he decided he wanted to be closer to his family.
Johnson was sentenced to six years in prison after grooming and engaging in sexual activity with a 15-year-old girl.
Judge Jonathan Rose said he had caused the girl “severe psychological harm.”
Johnson is appealing the conviction.
