Police: Man Stole Valuable Diamond, Traded It For Weed
An Arizona man reportedly stole a valuable diamond and then traded it for a bag of marijuana.
Walter Earl Morrison, who was 20 when the incident occurred in 2014, allegedly stole a gem worth $160,000 from a UPS cargo plane and swapped it for $20 worth of drugs.
Morrison was an employee for UPS at the time, according to KNXV. He was reportedly unloading the plane at Sky Harbor Airport when he hid a package that he thought contained money under his shirt. He later discovered it contained a diamond.
"Any single stone worth over $100,000 is an expensive stone," House of Diamonds owner Brent Taubman told KNXV.
But instead of cashing it in, Morrison decided to use the gem to secure $20 worth of weed, which equates to about two joints, according to ABC News.
The diamond was eventually recovered and sent to its rightful owner, a UPS representative told KNXV, adding that Morrison's employment with UPS was terminated following the incident.
Police charged Morrison with felony theft.
