Gun Store Owner And Son Die In Shootout With Customers, Police Say

A gun store owner and his son were killed in a shootout with customers at their store in Pearl River County, Mississippi, on Jan. 23.

Pearl River County Chief Deputy Shane Tucker said the incident took place when a father and son visited McLemore Gun Shop  to pick up a firearm that had been dropped off to be repaired, according to the Sun Herald. The owner’s wife, who was assisting them at the time, informed them that the gun was not ready and that there would be a $25 service charge — prompting a dispute to take place.

The woman called her husband, who arrived with their son. The situation quickly escalated and led to a shootout. The owner, 44-year-old Jason McLemore, was killed along with his 17-year-old son, Jacob.

The customers, 52-year-old Audy McCool and his son, 29-year-old Michael, both sustained life-threatening injuries and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment. As of Jan. 24, Audy was reported to be in stable condition in the ICU. There were no updates on Michael's condition.

No charges have been filed, as the case is still being investigated.
