Gun Activists Support Store That Armed Orlando Shooter

Ed Henson, the owner of the gun store where Omar Mateen bought the two weapons used to kill 49 people in Orlando, Florida, on June 12, held a press conference on June 13.

Mateen bought an AR-15 rifle and a handgun at the St. Lucie Shooting Center, ATF Agent Sal van Susteren told the New York Daily News.

Henson, a former NYPD officer, said during his press conference: "An evil person came in here and legally purchased two firearms from us. And if he hadn't purchased them from us, I am sure he would have gotten them from another local gun store in the area."

Henson added: "This man held multiple security licenses. He had an armed and unarmed license. He passed the background check that every single person that purchases a firearm in the state of Florida undergoes."

Henson refused to describe any personal contact that he or his staff had with the Orlando shooter.

"He’s a nobody," Henson told the Orlando Sentinel. "He’s a customer. He came and purchased his guns and he left. We do a large business."

LawNewz.com notes that several pro-gun users on Twitter praised Henson:

"The owner of the Gun Shop where the #Orlando shooter bought his guns was well spoken as he trashed MSM misinformation."

"Port St Lucie gun shop owner gave a great press conference. Hope the MEDIA reports honestly."

"I'd strongly suggest to #PR people who represent small business owners to look at the press conference by the gun shop owner. Well done."

The New York Daily News reports that Henson posted an anti-Muslim image on Facebook in December 2015 that read: "In the name of freedom: F--k Islam, F--k Allah. F--k Muhammad. F--k the Koran. F--k people who support terrorism."

According to the newspaper, Henson posted a picture of President Barack Obama on Facebook in November 2015 and wrote: "He should be handcuffed, removed from Office and charged with Treason and then publicly executed! How can the American People and military stand by and do nothing while this piece of s--t puts everyone of us in danger."
