An amateur video (below), filmed in Qimchok, Afghanistan, shows the public execution of a woman by a member of the Taliban, who shoots her nine times. After he kills her, dozens of men cheer: "God is great!"
Afghanistan officials believe that woman was executed because two Taliban commanders fought over her.
According to Parwan province governor Abdul Basir Salangi: "In order to save face, they accused her of adultery. They faked a court to decide about the fate of this woman and in one hour, they executed the woman."
"We went there to investigate and we are still looking for people who were involved in this brutal act."
Afghan lawmaker Fawzia Koofi added: "I think we will have to do something serious about this, we will have to do something as women, but also as human beings. She didn't even say one word to defend herself."
The United States government condemned the killing, calling it a "cold-blooded murder."
Amazingly, U.N. Secretary General Ban Ki-moon urged U.N. delegates not to demand reforms in Afghanistan in exchange for foreign aid: "Afghan institutions are still in their nascent stages. The very programs which offer the best hope of sustainability of Afghan institutions should not be held hostage to complex preconditions."
