A Gwinnett County, Georgia, couple were arrested and charged with murdering their 10-week-old daughter after allegedly feeding her diluted breast milk.

According to reports, Nevaeh Landell died in March from water intoxication after her parents diluted the breast milk they were feeding her. The baby’s parents, 26-year-old Herbert Landell and 25-year-old Lauren Fristed, reportedly refused to get medical attention for the baby when she began to get sick, on the grounds that it was against their religious beliefs.

By the time the couple took Nevaeh to the hospital, she was dead.

The arrest warrants for the couple stated that “the ingestion of too much water caused the victim’s electrolyte and sodium levels to drop,” and ultimately “caused water intoxication that led to swelling in the victim’s brain.”

Landell was charged with felony murder and aggravated battery by depriving, and Fristed was charged with aggravated battery by depriving, first-degree cruelty to children and second-degree cruelty to children.
