George Zimmerman was arrested late Friday night on an aggravated assault with a weapon charge.
Zimmerman, 31, rose to international prominence in 2013 when he was acquitted of shooting and killing Trayvon Martin.
According to CNN, Zimmerman was arrested by police in Lake Mary, Florida, and booked at the John E. Polk correctional facility at 10:10 p.m. Friday. He is currently being held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court at 9:00 a.m. Saturday.
This is Zimmerman’s fourth brush with local police. In September 2013, he was accused of threatening his estranged wife – although she later decided not to press charges. In November 2013, he was arrested for domestic abuse of his girlfriend – who later also dropped the charges. In September 2014, Zimmerman was arrested for road rage.
It is not clear what events led up to this most recent aggravated assault charge.
