The University of Virginia lacrosse player accused of killing a female lacrosse player reportedly told police he hit the victim during an altercation. George Huguely is charged with first degree murder for the death of Yeardley Love.
Police say Huguely told them he kicked in Love's bedroom door, then fought with her. According to court documents, Huguely said he shook Love, then repeatedly slammed her head against a wall.
An affidavit filed with a search warrant said police found Love face down in her bedroom with a pool of blood on her pillow, a large bruise on her face and one eye swollen shut. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
“Huguely stated that he and Love had been in a relationship and that the relationship had ended,” the document said.
Earlier Tuesday, Huguely's lawyer said Love's death was "an accident with a tragic outcome." He did not elaborate any further.
