Alex Jones is famous, or infamous, for his many conspiracy theories, but one of his more bizarre claims is that homosexuality is caused by "chemical warfare" waged by the U.S. government.
“The reason there are so many gay people now is because it’s a chemical warfare operation," Jones said in June 2010 (video below), reports Salon.com. "I have the government documents where they said they’re going to encourage homosexuality with chemicals so people don’t have children."
Jones then examined a fruit drink container and said: "I even catch myself drinking out of these little estrogen mimickers. In fact, it will probably even say if it is lined with it inside the plastic packaging."
Moments later, Jones rips open the fruit juice box and exclaims: "Here's the inside of this juice box. See that thin plastic plastic? It's got it and I'm letting my children drink this. After you’re done drinking your little juices, you’re ready to go out and have a baby. You’re ready to put makeup on, you’re ready to wear a short skirt. You're ready to put together a garden of roses or something.”
According to a NPR report in 2011, many plastic products did release chemicals such as "BPA" that might have acted like the sex hormone estrogen, but there is no evidence that the chemicals turned people gay.
The report adds: "Many plastic products are now marketed as BPA-free, and manufacturers have begun substituting other chemicals whose effects aren't as well known."
