Gay Couple Challenges Florida's Adoption Ban

A gay Florida couple has challenged the state's strict ban on gay adoption, reigniting a legal and social debate over whom is best fit to be a parent.

Martin Gill and his partner have been the legal guardians of two young boys for years and believe that the state's denial of parental status is discriminatory and harmful to the children.

"Me and my partner can provide them [the children] with a continuity that only we can provide them with, and separation at this point would be devastating," said Gill during a press conference.

Florida is the only state in the nation with such a rigid law, and attorneys for the state insist that overturning the ban would expose children to "heightened risks" associated with gay parents. A ruling in the case will likely take months.
