White House officials were not amused by the array of French journalists taking Oval Office selfies while covering French President Francois Hollande’s meeting with President Barack Obama this week.
Laurence Haim, a reporter for Canal Plus, told France 24 that White House staff warned journalists that selfies are “not the done thing.”
Diplomats always turn over their cell phones upon entering the West Wing.
One picture in particular, taken by Le Monde reporter Thomas Wieder, has many wondering whether the journalist is simply on vacation or covering the meeting. It shows a group of reporters grinning as Obama and Hollande sit in the background.

French journalist David Angevin later tweeted, “As we say in France, ‘morons can do anything, that's how we recognize them.’"
Wieder was in San Francisco with Hollande today where he’s expected to meet with Silicon Valley executives and entrepreneurs.
