Freedom Ship Would Give World Its First Floating City

This takes bon voyage to a whole new place.

If a company based in Florida raises the needed $10 billion, it plans to build the Freedom Ship, a boat that would serve as the world’s first floating city.

The Freedom Ship would be a mile-long, 25-story-high floating city that will have its own airport, schools, casinos and much more. The ship would be able to house 50,000 people, plus an additional 60,000 visitors and crew and would never dock.

The New York Daily News reports that Florida-based company, Freedom Ship International have designed the vessel which sails constantly, circling the globe.

"The Freedom Ship will be the largest vessel ever built, and the first ever floating city,” Roger M Gooch, director and vice-president of Freedom Ship International said.

If the plan turns into a reality, the finished 2.7 million-ton vessel would be so big it could never enter a port.

The ship would spend 70 percent of its time anchored off major cities and the rest sailing between countries, noted If completed, the ship will be more than three times longer than the Queen Mary II cruise ship.

"In the last six months we're getting more interest in the project and we are hopeful we will raise the $1 billion to begin construction." Gooch added.
