A Texas man was sentenced to 40 years in prison after murdering two people in six years.
Damien Ray Torres of Fort Worth, Texas, committed his first murder when he was just 14 years old, in November 2009, the Star-Telegram reports. According to police, he was in the backseat of a car when he fired at another car, killing 16-year-old passenger Zuly Ledesma.
After serving five years of his 30-year sentence, Torres was paroled from the juvenile correctional facility at the age of 19, in August 2014.
After only six months back out on the streets, Torres took another life in a shooting outside of a bar in downtown Fort Worth, police said.
Ernesto Rodriguez, 26, was Torres’ second victim. He was shot several times by Torres outside of Club Vice on Feb. 22. Police believe the shooting may have been motivated by an earlier fight that occurred inside the club. Rodriguez died from the injuries in the hospital on March 2.
Homicide detectives J. Cedilla and E. Pate linked Torres to the shooting. They arrested him on a murder warrant that same month.
On Dec. 29, Torres pleaded guilty to the murder of Ernesto Rodriquez and was sentenced to 40 years in prison.
