Former Teacher Faces Charges After Five-Month Sexual Relationship With Student

A former teacher faces several charges after allegedly having a sexual relationship with a 14-year-old student.

Serena Rae Milan, 28, turned herself in to police on Nov. 18 for a 29-count presentment stemming from a five-month sexual relationship she is accused of having with a former middle-school student, the Daily Mail reports.

Milan faces charges of solicitation of a minor, sexual activity involving a minor, and statutory rape by an authority figure, among others.

A 14-page presentment states that she had sexual relations with a male student between February and July, according to WBIR. Milan is accused of participating in several forms of sexual contact with the student, including through electronic communication.

She allegedly sent the child 17 photos of herself involved in sexual activity over the five-month period. Milan also solicited similar photos from the student.

“She intends to accept responsibility for her actions and continues to have strong family support,” Milian’s defense attorney, Greg Isaacs, said. “Miss Milan is a good person that has taken these allegations very seriously and will continue to take these allegations very seriously.”

According to court documents, she is charged with six separate felony counts for specific sexual incidents with the boy, each one carrying a penalty range of three to six years, Knox News reports. Milan faces one charge of constantly involving the child in the production of sexually explicit images, some of which were allegedly taken at the school. Five of her felony charges, each with a possible indictment of two to four years, stem from soliciting the child to send her images of himself engaged in sexual activity.

Milan was an English Language Arts Intervention teacher at Northwest Middle School in Knoxville, Tennessee, for one year and resigned in July. Her resignation took place one day after she reportedly sent the student four photos of herself engaged in sexual activity.

Milan's husband, Brian, reportedly works at a local high school. The couple has a young daughter.

Upon resigning, Milan allegedly sent an email to the principal stating she was leaving the school “due to circumstances I can’t explain right now.”
