Former Mayor of Bullhead City, AZ, Injured, Husband Dies from Bites While Breaking up Dog Fight

Tom Vick, a very popular and high-profile teacher at Mohave Valley High School, died on Sunday from dog bites inflicted in the family's home. He and his wife, Diane, former Mayor of Bullhead City, AZ, were trying to break up a fight between their two pet dogs when both were injured.

On Saturday evening, Diane Vick called 911 to report that her husband,Tom (shown in photo with daughter, Erica), had been badly bitten by a family dog in their home. The couple lives in the 2900 block of La Paloma Drive, said Police Lieutenant Nick Sessions.

Officers found that Diane Vick, 65, and her husband, Thomas Vick, 64, were both attacked by their Boxer when they tried to break up a fight between the Boxer and their smaller Cocker Spaniel.

Sessions said. "He died and she was flown to Las Vegas and I understand she may need surgery today."

Both Diane and Tom Vick were taken to Western Arizona Regional Medical Center for emergency treatment; and both were then flown to a hospital in Las Vegas, about 90 miles to the north, Mail Online reports.

Tom Vick died Sunday morning, according to AZCentral.

His wife "was pretty beat up," Bullhead City Mayor Jack Hakim told the site, but should recover. The mayor called the attack "devastating."

Friends stated that the Vicks were true animal lovers and students of Tom Vick wrote the following tributes to him on a Facebook memorial page:

"My thoughts and prayers goes out to the Vick Family. Mr.Vick was a good man and one of the best teachers I had at Mohave. you will be truly Missed," one former student wrote.

"Mr. Vick didn't care who you were, he just cared. The world truly lost an amazing guy, may he rest in peace," wrote another

The dogs are reportedly being held at the Bullhead City Animal Control facility.
