An Alabama mother was shot dead by her husband, a former Marine, in a doctor’s office not long after he penned a chilling post on Facebook saying that he would “die today.”
According to reports, 25-year-old Eric Heath Price opened fire on his wife Leaj Jarvis Price, 24, inside the doctor’s office after the woman ran there from their home to ask someone to “call for help.” Eric had followed his wife to the doctor’s office and killed her with a single gunshot.
The 25-year-old former Marine returned to the couple’s home, which stands right behind the doctor’s office, and engaged dozens of police officers in a standoff that last hours. Price then shot himself in the head, but he did not die, and after authorities fired tear gas into his home, he eventually surrendered.
Eric is now being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head at a local hospital. The tragic incident happened on the same day that Eric took to Facebook to declare that he would die.
“I'm sorry everyone, its been real, good bye and i love you all,” Price wrote, along with, “I dei [sic] today.”
“There never was an active shooter, no hostages,” Jemison Police Chief Shane Fulmer said of the shooting at the doctor’s office. “The individual was shot inside the doctor's office. The first thing [Mrs. Price] said when she came in was, ‘Call the police.’”
Once he is released from the hospital, Eric Price will be taken to Chilton County Jail. Those close with Eric and Leaj, as well as their 6-year-old son, say that the 25-year-old did not have a history of violence, but they did confirm that he has had “issues” in the past.
Police are actively investigating the disturbing incident.
