Pennsylvania woman Brandi Lee Weaver-Gates is facing charges after she reportedly lied about having cancer (video below).

Weaver-Gates was arrested on Aug. 11 and charged with theft by deception and receiving stolen property. Investigators noted that the 23-year-old had taken money from events to take care of fake medical procedures associated with her fictional battle with cancer.

It became apparent that Weaver-Gates was lying about her condition when police received an anonymous letter. It noted that Weaver-Gates couldn’t actually name any of the doctors she was supposedly receiving treatment from.

According to a police report, the former Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International pageant winner would often tell people that she had been diagnosed with chronic lymphocytic leukemia. Weaver-Gates would reportedly have relatives drive her to Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, Maryland, have the relatives wait in the lobby, then go to another part of the hospital for hours to appear as though she’d had treatment, reports WJAC.

Weaver-Gates also reportedly claimed that she was a patient at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville, Pennsylvania, and University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. None of the facilities had her listed as a patient, noted Trooper Thomas Stock, who is an investigator on the case.

"We were also led to believe that she was dealing with this horrible disease and stood by her as she struggled with being a beauty queen and a cancer patient," Butler's Beauties, the production company behind Miss Pennsylvania U.S. International, said in a statement.

The company noted that Weaver-Gates would have to return her sash and gown as a result of the allegations.

The young woman even shaved her head to appear as a patient, in addition to accepting money from fundraisers in her benefit, reports NY Daily News. Most recently, a “Bingo for Brandi” event raised $14,000 in April.

Weaver-Gates was booked at the Centre County prison on Aug. 11.
